A butterfly
Then came to us
Flew around
Without a rush
Showed us how
He'd been set free
Drifting off
Where we can't see
Helped us know
He's on his way
We'll treasure this
Each passing day.
Sharon Kortas has contributed
several poems to this site, as part of our Trans-Pacific connection.
She started writing poems after her daughter, Michelle, was born with Special
Needs. The poems have been coming to her "out of the blue" ever since.
This poem, Wings of Flight was
written for the family of her daughter's nanny, in February 7, 1996 after
hearing of an incident at a funeral. During the funeral service, a monarch
butterfly flew all around the grave then into the gravesite hole and out
again as the family members were all standing over the casket. Whether
the spirit of the deceased family member or not, the image helped to provide
the family with solace.
