Poem & Words of Inspiration
Cited on Journey of Hearts
This page lists the poems cited
in various places on the website. I brought them together under one heading
for ease of finding them. Several
of the poems occur under different headings within the site, because many
of the poems can be used in different contexts. When the poems appear in
different sections, the poems themselves are the same, but the background
images are different, to create a slightly different effect or mood.
I have used poetry to help friends,
family, patients and colleagues deal with the pain from acute losses, aid
in their grieving process and help them through the transitional phase.
Many of the poems and soothing words that I have found helpful are on the
website. With out knowing about it, I was practicing a form of Poetry Therapy,
first for my own healing and then by sharing these poems with others, helping
them with their healing. Since
starting this site, we have had many other poems sent to be shared and
are included on this site.
What soon became apparent that
many other people also find poetry helpful and even therapeutic in processing
their grief. In July I received the following note:
A friend found your site on
the web and mailed the poem "DARKNESS" to me.
I have to tell you it really
blessed me more than you know or should I say as much as you probably do
know.
It came at a time 2 days after
I tried to slash my wrist, 3 wks ago. It's a long story, but suffice to
say that this expressed what I couldn't put into words. I showed it to
my counsellor. She thought it was beautiful.
Your ministry (which it is)
is a gift from God. I'm on the road to self recovery. It's a long one!
Just wanted to say thanks for being there.
Another note to the site came in
September:
Words just cannot express to
you what your poems have meant to me, especially "Darkness."
Are you and I related?
I have lost a dear friend to
cancer, and then slipped off the emotional ledge of my life, and no one
could understand what was happening to me and still is. Your poem
was instrumental in me convening to my friends what exactly I was feeling,
now I have hope that they will understand me better. Thank you and God
Bless you.
Don't stop writing.
Perhaps Maya Angelou said it best
in describing how poetry works:
We Humans are at our best when
we enjoy poetry....
Sometimes all you need is to reflect
in your mind
one poem that says,
" I can make it through."
Maya Angelou
We hope to provide a cross-section
of poems that upon reading the words and emotions you will be able to say
that "I can make it through."
